My August Reads, Part I...

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

I was not going to read these books! To be honest I could Not fathom a Christian Vampire series being Any good at all. I LOVE vampire books and movies...not the SCARY kind, but the dramatic kind. I also like a little...well....Sex in my books and any book categorized as Young Adult does Not bode well for smut. :) A friend of mine with like tastes read Twilight and Raved about it...as a matter of fact she Immediately fell in love with Edward and all things marble, so I decided to try it out.

I was Pleasantly surprised by this book. It is a quick and uncomplicated read...as you would expect for Young Adult...but not in a bad way! It is a great summer read and I immediately wen tout and bought #3...knowing a friend was meeting me in CO with #2.

I was not completely infatuated by Edward...as I am a cross between a die hard romantic and an independent feminist, he did get me thinking, though...and there May have been a few nice daydreams. :)
I give it 4 of 5 stars overall
I quick synopsis from Goodreads.com (In case you have been living under a rock and don't know what this series is about:)

As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. In Twilight, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because--he's a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.

New Moon by Stephanie Meyer

I was hooked after Twilight and was waiting not so patiently for my trip to CO to get #2. I read it in 2 days...one laying on a hammock at my Father's cabin and one taking turns driving home from CO...I did NOT want to take my turn at the wheel!

This one gave me some surprises...which is nice. It gets boring to guess what is going to happen at every turn, I was actually worried here that Bella would turn from the Passionate Love that Ms Meyer had worked so hard to build in Twilight...that seemed like a tragedy to me!
I give it 4 of 5 stars overall
I quick synopsis from Goodreads.com

Legions of readers entranced by Twilight are hungry for more and they won't be disappointed. In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural twist. The "star-crossed" lovers theme continues as Bella and Edward find themselves facing new obstacles, including a devastating separation, the mysterious appearance of dangerous wolves roaming the forest in Forks, a terrifying threat of revenge from a female vampire and a deliciously sinister encounter with Italy''s reigning royal family of vampires, the Volturi. Passionate, riveting, and full of surprising twists and turns, this vampire love saga is well on its way to literary immortality.

While I was waiting for Book #3 of the Twilight Series I decided to try another Vamp series a co-worker had suggested...
Undead and Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson

This book sure delivered on the sex. ;) It is hilarious and full of "F Bombs" and graphic sex...right up my alley. :D This is another fun, fast read...not a lot of guessing, but worth the read...I will be getting the rest of the series from the library soon! The "heroine" in this series is my kind of gal...she tells it like it is, does things like She wants and damn the consequences...Yes, I have gotten in some trouble for this in my life, but it is My life, ya know?
I give it 3 of 5 stars, not because I didn't like it, it just wasn't a real brain stretcher.
I quick synopsis from Goodreads.com:

First Betsy Taylor loses her job, then she's killed in a car accident. But what really bites is that she can't seem to stay dead. And now her new friends have the ridiculous idea that Betsy is the prophesied vampire queen, and they want her help in overthrowing the most obnoxious power-hungry vampire in five centuries.

  2. That IS funny..."all things marble"! You should read my daughter's reviews (on GoodReads) on these books. It'd crack you up! I personally loved the series! I hadn't heard of Undead and Unwed, but I'll definitely look for that one! Have you read the Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris? To me, it's the best series by far!

  4. Funny - I just read all 4 books in this series in the last week - loved them soo much I could not put them down... I had a harder time with book #2 (because it didn't feature Bella and Edward together) but as I read #3 and #4 it all made sense.... Loved them!!!
